Sony has officially announced a 2019 release date for Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle 2.
The date has been set for Sony’s Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle 2 and it will be going up against Star Wars: Episode IX. Sony picked December 13, 2019 for the sequel to the 2017 action-comedy reboot starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. It will debut one week before Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters.
Johnson took to Instagram following the announcement to share his excitement for the movie. He captioned his post with “the game is not over,” while relishing in the opportunity to once again “slap [Kevin Hart]’s lip’s into next week.”

Officially planting our JUMANJI flag. On DECEMBER 13th, 2019 – the game is not over. I hold JUMANJI very close to my heart and I’m beyond grateful you made our movie into the global juggernaut ($1BILLION+) it became. Can’t wait for you to see what our new adventure & new characters have in store as Christmas comes early. And once again, I get to slap @kevinhart4real’s lip’s into next week. The world is happy. #FearTheDrums #TheGameIsNotOver #JUMANJI DECEMBER 13th, 2019
The first movie went up against Star Wars: The Last Jedi and was a box officer success grossing $961.7M becoming Sony’s second highest grossing ever with Skyfall taking the number 1 spot.
Star Wars: Episode IX will not be the only competition for the movie as Frozen 2, the highly anticipated Disney animated feature will hit theaters November 27, 2019.
Sony also moved Angry Birds 2 up to September 6, 2019, the same date as Warner Bros.’ horror sequel IT. It was previously slated for September 20.
